When we talk about a construction machine, we must consider at least two very important criteria: operational safety and technical condition. The two are interconnected, and the situation in which such equipment would be taken out of use due to technical failures is a real financial problem and compliance with the deadline.
In this case we are talking about one of the most used equipment of this kind, the backhoe or, as it is popularly called, “bulldozer”.
It goes without saying that regular technical overhauls must be done on time, with quality parts, but there are still little tricks that have the role of prolonging the life of a bulldozer.
Daily inspection
It takes a few minutes to make a short visual inspection, which can detect a small anomaly, but which can announce a more serious defect:
– look for any oil leaks under the machine or at the hydraulic elements;
– inspect the tires for deep or abnormal cuts or wear and check the pressure regularly; – check hoses and any other rubber components;
– at the end of the day, try to leave the equipment clean of dirt and the residues you handled that day;
Greasing
Improper performance of this operation is one of the main causes of failures. Certain components must be lubricated weekly or even more frequently, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations. The quality of Vaseline plays an important role, as does the quantity applied, neither too little nor in excess.
Maintenance of fluids and filters
As a bulldozer often works in difficult conditions, the coolant level, the degree of contamination of the hydraulic and engine oil, and the level of the windscreen washer fluid, respectively, must be checked periodically.
Safety in exploitation
The training of the operators, the use of quality spare parts, the perfectly compatible attachments, the observance of the protection norms on site throughout the handling of the machine are extremely important for ensuring the safe operation of the backhoe loader.
